The original aluminum rub rail is another well-known weak point of classic Bertram yachts. Over time, exposure to saltwater, impacts, and galvanic corrosion inevitably compromise both its structural integrity and appearance.
Years ago, Capt. Patrick Mc Crary and Capt. Alex Whitaker developed a PVC guard rail designed to faithfully replicate the original aluminum profile in both dimensions and visual identity. However, the production requirements and import costs from the United States made this solution difficult to source consistently in Europe.
Through a collaboration with a Hellenic shipyard specialized in classic yacht restoration, Bertraholic contributed to the development of a new extrusion mold, allowing the production of a refined PVC rub rail system combined with a stainless steel profile. The result is a more durable, corrosion-resistant and practical solution that preserves the original character of the boat while improving long-term reliability and ease of installation.
The system is available in both straight and pre-shaped sections, specifically developed to simplify coupling around the bow geometry while maintaining precise alignment with the original Bertram lines.
